Adult Learners’ Week 2009

From July 2008 ESF Co-financing Organisations, providers and partners can get involved from summer 2008 by raising awareness of ALW 2009 and by nominating ESF projects and individual participants for national and regional ESF awards. The awards are a great way of celebrating learners’ achievements and encouraging others to get involved.

There are ESF awards for learners who have learnt as individuals or in a group, and for projects whose innovative approach has motivated and inspired learners. Nominations can relate to those funded from the latter part of the 2000-2006 ESF programme and from early 2007-2013 ESF project activity.

Everyone nominated will receive a Certificate of Achievement, and the winners will be invited to an awards ceremony and receive a learning voucher. Videos of 2008 winners can be viewed on the ALW website.

Making a nomination can be done online or by post. Online nomination forms will be available from the end of July on the ALW website and printed nomination forms are also available. The closing date for nominations is Wednesday 21 January 2009. Providers are encouraged to nominate potential ESF award winners.

ALW 2009 timetable

• July 2008 - 21 January 2009:
  • CFOs promote ALW 2009 and awards nominations opportunities to providers/others.
  • CFOs, providers, partners and others submit nominations for regional/national ESF award winners.
• February - March 2009: short listing and selection panels for ESF and other award winners undertaken by NIACE and ALW partner organisations (including ESF Division, Government Offices and CFOs).
• April - May 2009: Detailed planning/promotion of ALW, including national/ regional events. Winners notified/invited to award ceremonies and plans made to publicise their stories during ALW.
• 9-15 May 2009. Adult Learners’ Week. The national awards ceremony will take place on Monday 11 May and regional events throughout the week. ESF and other winners will receive their awards and many Government Offices/CFOs will be involved in the regional events. The events and winners stories will be publicised.
