South West consortium celebrates project success

A New College led consortium of local colleges and training providers in Wiltshire has been celebrating following the successful completion of two projects which offered free courses to unemployed parents and carers and subsidised training for small and medium sized businesses.

The celebratory event, which took place at Lackham College on 17 July, saw the coming together of members of the consortium, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), local government and members of the public that have benefited from the projects.

The year long projects, which were funded by ESF, helped nearly 250 people in Wiltshire and the consortium has already been given approval to run a further two projects in the coming year.

Julia Falaki, who has been leading the consortium, commented: “Both of the projects have been very successful and have benefited a huge number of people in Wiltshire, who wouldn’t have been able to afford to do the courses otherwise. It’s been great to have people at the celebration who have benefitted from the projects and hear first hand what a difference it has made to them.”

Mark Williams, ESF Skills Development Director, commented: “We have been delighted with the consortium’s approach to partnership working which has secured the delivery of such effective and targeted support to parents and carers in Wiltshire. The success of the ESF investment in contributing to the personalisation of learning has been fantastic and from an LSC perspective facilitated access to learning for many more people than would have otherwise been available.
