Minister for Europe visits Birmingham ESF project

Minister for Europe Caroline Flint.

Minister for Europe Caroline Flint visited the West Midlands on 3 March 2009 to see how the EU is helping to create job opportunities and improve the quality of life for individuals and families across the region.

The European Social Fund is investing £282 million ESF in the West Midlands in 2007-2013 which will help 220,000 people improve their skills and job prospects.

In Birmingham, Caroline Flint visited the Activate project at the University College Hospital which has helped retrain over 600 unemployed workers using money from the ESF.

Caroline Flint said that Europe will continue to bring benefits to the West Midlands: "I have seen for myself examples of how EU funding is making a real difference to people and communities in the West Midlands.”
