Case studies

This section of the website provides case studies of projects that are using ESF to improve participants' skills and job prospects. It also includes booklets on ESF achievements in some of the English regions.

The first three case studies are of the winners from Adult Learners’ Week 2008.

Beaumont Street Studios - Blueprint project

Co-financed by Jobcentre Plus in North Yorkshire, this client centred project provides a range of measures to help people on incapacity benefits move into long-term employment.

Fair Cities - Birmingham

Co-financed by Jobcentre Plus and the Learning and Skills Council, Fair Cities in Birmingham is using ESF to fund a range of measures to that help increase the number of disadvantaged ethnic minority residents who gain employment.

Fifteen Cornwall

Inspired by Jamie Oliver, Cornwall Foundation of Promise (Fifteen Cornwall's charity) is working with Jobcentre Plus to recruit, train and support disadvantaged young people.

'The case studies below are some of the 2000-2006 projects that presented or exhibited at the event to launch the new ESF programme and celebrate 50 years of ESF on 29th October 2007.

ASSERT Project - Northamptonshire Society for Autism

Co-financed by the Learning and Skills Council, this ESF project helps to enhance the independence of people with autism and prepare them for work.

Dido Project - Suffolk County Council

The Dido Project was funded by the European Social Fund through the Learning and Skills Council. The Dido Project was aimed at women aged 25 plus and were either unemployed living in rural areas or lone parents.

Ilderton Motor Project

The Ilderton Motor Project was funded by the European Social Fund through the Learning and Skills Council. The project works with teenagers to prepare for a job by learning mechanical skills.

Matching Ability with Jobs (MAWJ) – Portsmouth City Council

The project targeted long-term unemployed people, people with little or no qualifications, lone parents and people on incapacity benefits. The project aim to help participants into work.

Newco Employment and Training

The Newco Employment and Training project is funded by the European Social Fund through the Learning and Skills Council aims to support unemployed disabled people into work through training and guidance.

Waltham Forest Mencap – Preparing and Serving Food NVQ Project

The project was funded by the European Social Fund through the Learning and Skills council. The project aimed to enable people with learning disabilities from disadvantage backgrounds to gain qualifications in hygiene and food preparation.
