Case Study

Christopher re-registered with At Work in March and was looking for a warehouse role. His job broker talked to him about the position and tried to find out what his objectives were. Because of his experience and job history, the co-financing provision was discussed with him and his job broker felt this would be of benefit to him, giving him time to spend on building his confidence.

After working through job searches and talking about expectations, his job broker felt he wasn't being realistic. They spent the next few weeks going through in-depth interview preparation and motivation, as well as confidence building.

Christopher wanted to work in a warehouse, but there was none available, so his job broker asked which other work environments he'd like to work in. Chris said that he'd like to be a kitchen assistant, so an interview was arranged for him at the local pub. However, he also had an interview at the rhubarb triangle, the centre for forced rhubarb growers that is located between Wakefield, Rothwell and Morley and location of the annual Rhubarb Festival.

As it was a food environment, Chris was advised that he would need to make sure his personal hygiene and presentation was 100%. He attended his interview and was offered the position and started a couple of days later.

He was happy with the help he had been given, is still getting on well at the rhubarb triangle and is glad he explored other work avenues that were available to him.
